The Empath
Gem is – by definition – empathetic. But is she empathetic enough to make her planet worth saving in the eyes of the Vians? It seems likely that someone will die in this episode, but who will it be and will they be cool with it? Find out, when we put The Empath in the Mission Log.
Remember these bad guys ? Want their autograph ? Really? Well you can see not only theirs, but just about every other TOS actor’s autographs here:

@MLhostJohn:disqus So- who wore The Frozen Stiff better; Subject Linke, or our boy Han Solo? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4b3563266345bfcbe2212a2bc32158229ffae397f98f5ae62adcc67e4e2d8b8f.jpg
Notice the facial expressions……..
That is fantastic – love the similarity!
I thought it was hilarious and couldn’t agree more with you guys that it seemed like this episode lasted forever. What made it worse, was that I was in Iceland for work the week I watched this and I had my iPad all set up, fire up the VPN so I could get Netflix to work, start watching the episode and promptly fall asleep. I wasn’t sure if it was just jet-lag or this episode that made me fall asleep three nights in a row trying to get through it, so, yes, it seemed a particularly long episode to me as well.
Still catching up on the podcast and still enjoying it. I might actually be coming out to Vegas for the convention next month to completely geek out in the TrekVerse ๐
Hope to see you there! Drop by the Mission Log table if you make it. We can all reminisce about how “The Empath” puts us all to sleep.
I did go to the convention back in August in Vegas and I saw you guys at the table, but you were and Rod were recording an interview with someone. I swung by again sometime later, but you were busy again, so sorry, I missed you guys. Hopefully, I’ll catch you at the next one. This was my first convention and I really enjoyed it, so I’m going to make it a point to go in the future.
Sorry we missed you! Do make sure you stick around next time (the later in the weekend it is, the busier we are usually). Thanks for trying – sounds like you had a good time at the convention!
I found this episode so fascinating because I couldn’t believe they actually made it. Makes you realize what a great actor Shatner was.
WS: “Didn’t they finish the set?”
FF: “No, that’s it”
WS: “Ok, is someone getting the lights?”
FF: “Then people would see next week’s show”
WS: “Where is everybody?”
Haha ๐
I think there could have been an interesting discussion if they went one level deeper (and you know, put that message in a good episode): what makes a civilization worthy of being saved? The two aliens kind of come in with a weird answer of “so compassionate, it erases your survival instinct and you would sacrifice yourself for a perfect stranger while your captures watch creepily.” But an episode where Kirk is put in the impossible position of deciding which planet to save and what factors would even go into making that decision, would be both interesting and emotionally devastating.
